Add Ingredient Type

Overview

This section explains how Ingredient Types work and how to create new Ingredient Types.


What Is an Ingredient Type?

An Ingredient Type is used to group similar ingredients together so you can control how and where they are accessed within your dispensary.

The following ingredient types are already created in your dispensary

  • Raw

  • Raw Premixes

  • Granules

  • Granule Premixes

  • Tincture

  • Tincture Premixes

  • Concentrate

  • Concentrate Premixes

You can now create additional Ingredient Types such as:

  • Essential Oils

  • Powdered Herbs

  • Tea

  • Bases


How to Add an Ingredient Type


  1. Click Add New above the Ingredient Types list

  2. Complete the Ingredient Type setup form

Required Settings

  • Ingredient Type Name

    • Internal system name

    • Only special character allowed is the underscore (_)

    • No spaces; this means its one word only but you can use the underscore if two names is necessary

  • Display Name

    • Name shown throughout the dispensary

    • Can differ from the internal name

    • The Ingredient System Name and Display name can be the same or similar

    • Example: Name = Raw, Display Name = Bulk.   

  • Ingredient Type Category

    • Select Single Ingredient or Premix Formula

  • Form

    • Solid

    • Liquid

    • Both

  • Default Cost of Goods

    • Applied to all new ingredients of this type

  • Default Selling Price per Unit

    • Applied to all new ingredients of this type

  • Default Measurement Type

  • Default Ingredient Name Type


Additional Configuration Sections

After the basic setup, you can expand four additional sections to define defaults for this Ingredient Type:

  • Ingredient Name Types

  • Measurement Types

  • Fields

  • Attributes

These settings determine which options are automatically applied when a new ingredient is created using this Ingredient Type.

All settings can be modified later after the Ingredient Type is created.


Ingredient Types give you powerful control over how ingredients are structured and managed, laying the foundation for future formula-building and custom product capabilities.
