Import Categories

Import Categories

This article explains how to bulk import categories into your dispensary using a CSV file. Categories can be used to organize single herbs, formulas, and products.

Important:
Any category included in an import file will be automatically created in your dispensary if it does not already exist.


Where to Import Categories

Navigate to:

Admin > Settings > Data > Import New Data > Categories


Getting Started

  1. Click Download Sample File

  2. Open the CSV file on your computer

  3. Enter your category data

  4. Save the file

  5. Upload the file to import categories


Category Types

There are three category types supported:

  • Herb Categories

  • Formula Categories

  • Product Categories


Category Type Column (Column A)

In Column A (Category Type), enter the type of category you are importing.

Accepted values (must be written exactly):

  • Herbs — for single herb categories

  • Formula — for formula categories

  • Product — for product categories


Category Hierarchy (Cat1–Cat4)

Categories can be nested using up to four levels.

  • Cat1 — Parent category

  • Cat2 — Sub-category

  • Cat3 — Sub-sub-category

  • Cat4 — Sub-sub-sub-category

You may use as many or as few levels as needed.

Example:

  • Cat1: Digestive Health

  • Cat2: Liver

  • Cat3: Qi Stagnation


Uploading the Category CSV File

  1. Go to Admin > Settings > Data > Import New Data > Categories

  2. Select your saved CSV file

  3. Click Review

  4. If the data is formatted correctly, submit the import


Verify Your Categories

After submission, you can confirm the categories were imported successfully by going to:

Admin > Lists > Categories


Best Practices

  • Use clear, consistent naming conventions

  • Avoid duplicate category names when possible

  • Plan your category hierarchy before importing

  • Remember that categories in import files are created automatically
