Overview

This section explains the Measurement tab for an Ingredient Type. Measurement settings define which units of measurement are available when using ingredients of this type throughout the dispensary.

For a complete overview of Ingredient Type options, refer to the full Ingredient Type documentation. Additional resources are available for learning about Ingredients and adding new Ingredient Types.

Measurement Types

The Measurement tab lists all measurement types available for the selected Ingredient Type.

Key points:

  • Each Ingredient Type must have at least one measurement type

  • One measurement type is designated as the default

  • The default measurement type is used for inventory tracking and calculations

You may add as many additional measurement types as needed to support different use cases, such as formulation, dispensing, or conversion.

Measurement Conversions

Overview

Measurement Conversions define how the system converts one measurement type into another. These conversions are used whenever a formula, ingredient, or inventory action requires translating between different units (for example, volume to weight).

Conversions ensure accuracy across formula calculations, inventory tracking, fulfillment, and reporting.

How Measurement Conversions Work

Each conversion specifies a clear relationship between two measurement types.

Example:

  • 1 mL = 1 g
This tells the system how to convert milliliters into grams when required.

When a conversion is needed, the system uses these rules to calculate the correct equivalent value automatically.

Where Conversions Are Used

Measurement conversions may be applied when:

  • Ingredients are entered using a measurement type different from the one used for inventory tracking

  • Formulas are built using alternate measurement units

  • Fulfillment requires quantities to be displayed or calculated in a standardized unit

  • Dosage calculations depend on converted values

Managing Conversions

From this section, you can:

  • Add existing conversions to make them available

  • Edit conversions to adjust the conversion formula

  • Control which conversions are used by the system

Conversions are applied consistently wherever unit changes are required.

Why This Matters

Accurate measurement conversions prevent dosing errors, inventory discrepancies, and fulfillment issues. Defining clear conversion rules ensures the system always knows how to translate values between measurement types in a predictable and reliable way.Proper measurement configuration ensures accurate calculations, inventory tracking, and consistency across all formulas that use this Ingredient Type.
